Tips for the wedding speech
It doesn’t matter if you’re Best Man, Maid of Honour, the Groom or even the Bride, a speech will be made and it’s important that it’s remembered for all the right reasons. Down below, we’ve listed a few top tips to help inspire you and get those creative juices flowing.
Know your crowd
Remember that every crowd is different and that while some jokes may go over well with the bride/groom/wedding circle, they may not be as well received with the rest of the family. Be sure to consider everyone in the audience. Are the wedding guests laid-back and casual or are they strict and traditional? Are there any children? Are there stories that extended family members may not wish to hear? Whoever is there, it would be wise to run the speech past someone who understands the audience to see if you’re on the right path.
Get anecdotal
It would be a great idea to add an anecdote or two into the speech. Think back to all the heartwarming and sometimes crazy moments you have shared with that person and how you got to where you both are today. What was your first impression of them? Is there a special story about how they met their partner? Think back on all of your insane but cherished memories that deserve to be heard and let them guide your speech.
Tell a joke or two
Everyone loves a good laugh and what better way to fill people with love and laughter than with a joke? This is a chance for your inner comedian to shine and win over the crowd – but don’t forget to make it personal. If you’re the Best Man, the speech he makes is usually the most anticipated one of the whole night/day so be sure to keep a few jokes up your sleeve. Just remember to keep it lighthearted as you don’t want to be responsible for any tears that aren’t caused by laughter!
