  • There is plenty to do;
  • The laws are British and
  • It’s a very friendly destination.

Although Gibraltar, Gib or the Rock, as it’s commonly referred to, is renowned for its tax free shopping and wide variety of British stores, there is so much more to do that meets the eye and there is always something for everyone.

Here’s something you might not know about Gibraltar:

  • It’s strategically placed at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It borders with Spain and is very close to Africa. If you don’t want to spend your entire time in Gibraltar, you could always get married on the Rock and spend your honeymoon across the border in Spain. With so many beautiful places to choose from, along the Spanish coastline and more inland, and so much to see, you really are spoiled for choice. Whether it’s history you’re looking for, or long walks and trekking, or simply a relaxing time, Spain has something for everyone. Just along the Spanish coastline, in one direction you’ll find the seaside towns of Tarifa and Bolonia renowned for their beautiful sandy beaches and kite surfing.

In Bolonia you’ll, also, find ancient Roman ruins of the old city that you can visit as well as splendid sand dunes and walks that will take your breath away.

In the opposite direction, in just 35 minutes you’ll find yourself in the buzzing hub of Puerto de la Duquesa where many British holiday. And, if you venture out a little further, you’ll soon be in Puerto Banus, Marbella renowned all over the world for its shops, nightlife and celebrity lifestyle.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you could sail off to Tangiers or Ceuta on one of the high speed ferries operated by FRS Iberia or FRS Maroc. Depending on weather conditions, there are multiple crossings a day. The crossing only takes between 45-60 minutes. So, you’ll soon find yourself in a completely different world full of Eastern scents and sights.  You can catch a ferry from Algeciras or Tarifa across the Straits of Gibraltar.

Ceuta is a Spanish stronghold in Africa. When you’re there, you can appreciate both the Moorish and Spanish influence. Tangiers, on the other hand, is a bustling hub of Moorish history and Souks (markets); selling spices, perfumes and textiles.
