Tasteful twists on traditional weddings

2020 has managed to put a pin in many people’s big day. But if you’re using the delay to dream up new ideas and plan new ways to make your wedding day more intertwined with who you are, rather than the traditional ‘big white wedding’ image, then we can help you put a tasteful twist on tradition.

The dress…

The dress is a dreamy element of a wedding day. While many of us dream of the perfect gown, we don’t necessarily need to wear a flowing dress in shimmering ivory, especially if that’s not quite us. In fact, we don’t need to stick to the white/cream colour scheme at all. There are many wedding dresses out there in a plethora of different colours – from pastel blues, pale pinks and mint greens to deep ruby reds and royal purples. And if breaking too far away from the traditional white wedding dress is not to your taste, there are those that spin just a little away from traditional – with a small embroidered pattern, a splash of lace or a ribbon around the waist in a more vibrant shade. So, if there’s a colour that means something to you and your husband-to-be or just a colour that you love, there will be a dress out there that can nod to that.

The suit…

The suit is just as important as the dress. Do you hear me, gentlemen? It’s your big day too and you should look and feel just as magical as your bride. And if a traditional suit is the style for you then you can, of course, stick to that and own it. But there are ways to personalise your outfit too! If the bride has decided on a different coloured dress or a wedding dress with a hint of a different colour, maybe your tie/bow-tie and pocket square could be in that shade too – just make sure it’s a colour that suits you both. And white suits are coming back in style if you’d rather, as the groom, dive into the ‘white wedding’ colour scheme. Or you can simply add a hat, a jazzy waistcoat or any accessories personal to you and your relationship. But the most important thing is to make sure the suit is tailored to you and fits perfectly. Trust us – you’ll look like a dreamboat.

The rings…

We all know the classics that are in fashion… sapphires, gold, sparkling diamonds. They’re beautiful, but they’re not for everybody. For those who want a style a bit more medieval, magical or just unique, look into the more niche side of the jewellery world when shopping for wedding and engagement rings. There are rings that are twisted and plaited; leaf and flower-shaped emeralds twirled up in white gold; rings shaped like crowns; and – possibly our favourite – rings engraved with quotes or special symbols. There are also some glorious men’s wedding rings in bronze and even some in oak that are stunning and just that little twist away from the classic styles.

The destination…

Where you get married can be very important if you want the day to feel special and sentimental. Many couples get married in places that have meant a lot to them, either literally or metaphorically. And while, traditionally, couples would choose to wed in a place of worship, nowadays you can tie the knot in a library, a hotel, a garden, a theatre, on the beach or anywhere really. But we, of course, think a Gibraltar wedding is the best kind of wedding. Gibraltar is filled with stunning scenery, gorgeous beaches, great shops and a wonderful mix of Spanish and British cultures. Not to mention what makes it unique (and a twist on the traditional), which is that it’s the location where you can see both Africa and Europe, which is simply amazing.
