Beach wedding makeup tips

Getting married on the beach is a dream come true for many brides. With golden sands, stunning scenery and a pleasant climate, Gibraltar offers an amazing venue too. For brides planning a beach wedding, one of the most common questions is about how to plan their makeup for the big day.

Don’t forget your suncream!

Starting with clean, moisturised skin is always important to get a smooth, beautiful wedding makeup look. However, if you’re planning to get married in Gibraltar, you should always think about sun protection too! In the summer, temperatures can reach well above 30 degrees Celsius. Even in autumn and early winter, daytime temperatures in the mid-20s are not unusual. Therefore make sure you start your skin preparation with a good quality moisturiser with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more.

Try a natural look

Many beach brides opt for a minimalist, relaxed look as part of their aesthetic for the day. However, even if you want a more formal look, it is worth choosing natural tones, and opting for several light layers. This is particularly important if you want formal photographs of your big day.

For outdoor weddings, photographers are more reliant on the natural light on the day. Whereas indoors, photographers can subtly influence the set-up by changing the lighting – this is less possible on the beach. This means that heavy, dark makeup is very easily picked up by HD cameras. It can look caked on, and even a little unnatural.

Plan ahead for exposure to the elements

There are some amazing venues for beach weddings in Gibraltar, but as with any outdoor wedding, there are certain things you must consider when planning. Being outside means you are exposed to the elements. The wind and sunshine can impact your makeup, and if it is a warm day you may also sweat more. Our top tip is therefore to make sure you have some blotting paper to hand! This can help you remove any excess shine without smudging your look.

Prepare your look ahead of time, with your favourite brands. Do check that your mascara is waterproof too! Remember that if you have sensitive skin, you should always test out your makeup with the brands you intend to use, before the big day. This reduces the possibility of an unexpected reaction, helping avoid any last-minute panic.
