Destination weddings are one of the top trends in 2022 with people wishing to combine their big day with a holiday they may have missed out on thanks to the pandemic. With so much going on, you may have neglected planning some aspects of the wedding experience, so we’ve compiled our favourite ideas to complete your destination wedding which will make your special day unique and memorable.
1. Have an unconventional hen or stag do
Getting married overseas may tempt you to skip out on the hen or stag parties to save money, or you might think that you have to get it over and done with at home before you fly out. Neither of these has to be true. It’s your day, so choose something which you love. This might mean a spa day with the bridesmaids the day before the wedding, or a cheap and cheerful activity like hiking. There are plenty of options available both home and abroad that don’t have to be a typical night out drinking, so take your time to choose one that fits your budget, but most importantly you will enjoy.
2. Have two receptions
For some people, the reception is the most important part of their wedding as it gets everyone together for fun, food and dancing. This could become a problem with a wedding abroad, however, as there is an increased risk of people not being able to attend with the added travel and expenses. With two receptions, one abroad and one at home, you can solve this problem easily while inviting double the family and friends without worrying about capacity. Or, you may choose to invite the same people twice for two celebrations!
3. Go on a road trip honeymoon
With a destination wedding, the whole thing feels like a honeymoon, and lots of people don’t organise a separate one as they are already enjoying the sun and don’t feel the need to travel more. But if you are keen to visit somewhere new after your wedding, why not go on a road trip? Don’t pay for additional flights – instead, hire a car and drive to another city (or maybe even country), as near or far as you like, and enjoy the freedom and new scenery.
